1. WHAT IS STARDOTZIP?

StarDotZip is a file archiving program with extraction 
and compression support for many archive types. 
See Supported file types for a list of supported archive types.
With StarDotZip you can open, extract, create and convert 
many archive types with just a few mouse clicks.

StarDotZip is shareware. You can evaluate it for 30 days. 
After 30 days, you must delete it from your system or register.

SOME OF STARDOTZIP'S FEATURES INCLUDE : 

SHELL INTEGRATION WITH WINDOWS 95/98/NT :  
   Support for long filenames, integration with the Windows 95/98/NT4 shell. 
   You can open, extract, create archive files from Windows Explorer. 
   You can also drag and drop files from StarDotZip to other applications 
   that support drag and drop (even to another instance of StarDotZip). 
   You can also drag and drop archives to StarDotZip to open them, or 
   drag other file types to create new archives or add to 
   currently open archives.

SUPPORT FOR 14 ARCHIVE FILE FORMATS : 
   These include many of the most popular formats found on the 
   internet including UUE, TAR, GZIP, ZIP, XXE, ARJ, and many others.

AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE EDITED FILES : 
   When viewing/editing a file within an archive, either by 
   double-clicking to open the file in it's associated program, 
   or using one of your choosen programs to edit a file, StarDotZip
   can automatically update the file in the archive. If the file 
   included a path in the archive, the path will be retained.

CREATE SELF EXTRACTING ARCHIVES : 
   This will allow you to create self extracting archives so 
   you can distribute them to others that may not have 
   any compression or extraction software.

KEEP TRACK OF RECENTLY USED FOLDERS : 
   StarDotZip can keep track of your most recently used folders 
   that you used for opening, extraction, or creation of 
   archive files. The number of folders to keep track of 
   for each operation can be configured.

MULTIPLE ARCHIVE SUPPORT : 
   StarDotZip can open multiple archive files at the same time. 
   You can also extract multiple archives with each going 
   to their own folders if you wish.

MULTI-VOLUME SUPPORT : 
   StarDotZip can create multi-volume archives with just a few clicks. 
   Currently this feature is only supported for ACE, ARJ, RAR, and ZIP archives. 
   The size of each ACE, ARJ, or RAR archive file can also be set to either 
   360k, 720k, 1.2 megs, or 1.44 megs.

SUPPORT FOR VIRUS SCANNERS : 
   StarDotZip can be set to use most virus scanners. You can also 
   have your choosen virus scanner run after file extraction 
   automatically.

INTERNAL FILE VIEWER : 
   StarDotZip has an internal file viewer that lets you view text 
   files, bitmaps, jpegs, icons, animated icons and cursors, 
   HTML files, and other file types. The number of files that 
   the internal viewer can open is only limited by your system's 
   memory although StarDotZip will stop opening if your system 
   memory gets to low.

INSTALL FILE EXTRACTION : 
   Quite often, a program in an archive file that you 
   download from the internet may be in the form of an 
   installation program. With StarDotZip, you can open that 
   archive and double-click on the installation EXE file 
   (setup.exe or install.exe) and StarDotZip will offer to 
   extract the neccesary files to proceed with the installation.

2. SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS

StarDotZip is a 32-bit program and will only run under 
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000.


External Archivers :  
   To be able to compress (or convert to) Ace, Arc, Arj, 
   Rar, and Zoo files, external programs are needed.

Virus scanner : 
   Although this is not a requirement for running
   StarDotZip, to use the Virus scanner options, you 
   will need one. StarDotZip has been tested with McAfee, 
   and Norton Anti-Virus programs and should work 
   with others that can accept a folder name as a 
   command-line parameter.

The Windows Common Control Library file Comctl32.dll : 
   StarDotZip requires at least version 4.72 
   of the comctl32.dll file. You can get this file from :

3. SUPPORTED FILE TYPES

The following file types are supported by StarDotZip :
   Ace Files (*.ace)
   Arc Files (*.arc)
   Arj Files (*.arj)
   Blakhole Files (*.bh)
   Cab Files (*.cab)
   Self Extracting (*.exe)
   GZip Files (*.gz; *.z)
   Jar Files (*.jar) (Sun Microsystem's JavaSoft .JAR format)
   Lha Files (*.lha; *.lzh)
   Rar Files (*.rar)
   Tar Files (*.tar)
   UUE (*.uue)
   Zip Files (*.zip)
   Zoo Files (*.zoo)

StarDotZip can uncompress each of these file types without 
the need for external programs. It can also create 
archives for these file types, but some types 
need an external program.

In addition to these file types, StarDotZip can view Install 
Shield install files (generally these files have
extensions of .Z, .1, .2 etc.). However, StarDotZip is 
unable to extract from this file type.

The following types of archive files can be created 
with StarDotZip without the need for external programs :
   Blakhole Files (*.bh)
   Cab Files (*.cab)
   Self Extracting (*.exe)
   GZip Files (*.gz; *.z)
   Jar Files (*.jar)
   Lha Files (*.lha; *.lzh)
   Tar Files (*.tar)
   UUE (*.uue)
   Zip Files (*.zip)

Programs for creating other archive types that StarDotZip 
has uncompression suppport for can be downloaded 
from the StarDotZip homepage.
The following archive types need external programs to create archives :
   Ace Files (*.ace)

   Rar Files (*.rar)
   Zoo Files (*.zoo)

4. INSTALLATION

   Simply Run SDZ_SETUP.EXE and read the instructions. Choose th location 
   where you want to place the StarDotZip program files.

5. REGISTRATION

Registration of StarDotZip entitles you to unlimited support via email.
Registered users will also recieve all future versions of StarDotZip free of charge.

The registration fee for StarDotZip is $20. 
Currently only credit card orders are accepted.

7. LICENSE AGREEMENT

Use of the Software
   Robert Jones (the "Author") grants you, 
   the end user, a non-exclusive single-user 
   license to use the supplied software program 
   and all associated materials including 
   supplied (the Software"). The Software and 
   all Intellectual Property embodied in the 
   Software always remains the property of the 
   Author. Your use of the Software indicates 
   your acceptance in full of the terms and 
   conditions of this agreement.


Evaluation period
   You are allowed to use this software, subject 
   to the terms listed below for an evaluation 
   period of 30 days. After which time you must 
   discontinue the use of the Software. Continued 
   use past the 30 day evaluation period requires 
   you to register the Software.


Copying the Software
   You may make copies of the Software for backup 
   or archival purposes only. You may use the 
   Software on one or more computers provided 
   there is no possibility of it being used 
   concurrently by more than one person.
   A separate license is required for each 
   concurrent user of the Software.

Distribution of the Unregistered Shareware Version of the Software
   The Unregistered Shareware version of the 
   Software may be distributed royalty free 
   in any form providing that no charge is 
   made for the Software itself. 
   Only a nominal fee for media and/or copying 
   services is allowed. All files that are supplied 
   with the Unregistered Shareware version that 
   you have received must also be included.


Distribution of the Registered Version of the Software
   The Licensed or Registered version of the Software 
   may not be distributed in any form without prior written 
   consent from the Author that has been officially notarized.

Derived Works
   You may NOT use the Software to derive any works 
   which are based in part or in full on the Software
   or portion of the Software.


Modified Versions of the Software
   All updated, revised, modified or improved versions 
   of the Software are also subject to the conditions 
   of this license agreement and shall remain the 
   property of the Author.


Termination of this Agreement
   You may terminate this License Agreement at any 
   time by destroying the Software along with 
   all copies in any form.


Limited Warranty
   The Software is distributed and licensed "AS IS".  
   The Author specifically disclaims all other warranties, 
   express or implied, including but not limited to, 
   implied warranties of merchantability and fitness 
   for a particular purpose, with regard to the Software.


Damages
   By using the Software you do so at your own risk. 
   In no event shall the Author be responsible for any 
   damages whatsoever (including but not limited to, 
   damages for loss of business profits, business 
   interruption, loss of business information, or any 
   other pecuniary loss or any other real or consequential damages) 
   arising out of the use or inability to use this product.

Liability
   In the event of failure of the Software for any reason, 
   the Author's sole liability shall be to refund the 
   purchase price of the Software or to provide a corrected 
   version of the Software, at the option of the Author.


Copyright
   The Software and the Intellectual Property embodied 
   in the Software shall always remain the property of 
   the Author and is protected by United States Copyright 
   Law and International Treaty Provisions.


Agreement
   Your use of the Software indicates your agreement with 
   the above terms and conditions. If you do not agree 
   with these terms and conditions then you should 
   destroy all copies of the software and return the 
   original copy of the software (where it has been 
   supplied on diskette) within 14 days for a refund.

Consumer Rights
   If any clause in the above Software License Agreement 
   is in violation of your consumer rights under your 
   local laws then that clause will be deemed to be 
   excluded in your specific case without effect on 
   the remainder of the agreement.
