Important Note ================================================================= Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation BEFORE you continue the installation. 2. Installation Notes ================================================================= We recommend that you have installed Windows NT 4.0, Service Pack 5, and are running the Standard VGA driver (640x480x16 color) before you install the Diamond ViperII Z200 NT 4.0 drivers. If you are running a different graphics mode, please re-configure for Standard VGA. 3. Installation Instructions ================================================================= Installation from CD: ----------------------------------------------------------------- Place the CDROM that you received with Diamond ViperII Z200 in your CDROM drive X: (X: being your CDROM drive letter). If your CDROM Autostart feature is turned off, you will need to manually go to your RUN line (Click on start/run located on your start bar) and browse to your CD, which will guide you through the rest of the installation. Manual Installation via .inf: ----------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Start system with Windows NT 4.0 installed. 2. IMPORTANT: When the "Please select the operating system to start..." message is displayed, select "Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00 [VGA mode]". 3. From "Start", select the "Settings group", then click on the "Control Panel" icon. 4. In the "Control Panel", double click on the "Display" icon. 5. In the "Settings" screen, click on the "Display Type..." button. 6. From the "Display Type" screen, and in the "Adapter Type" section, click on the "Change..." button. 7. In the "Change Display" screen, click on the "Have Disk..." button. 8. Locate the desired .inf file on your driver CD or elsewhere, then click on the "OK" button. 9. From the list of displayed Diamond devices, select your Diamond device. 10. From "Third-party Drivers", click on the "Yes" button to proceed. 11. If a message appears stating the driver is already installed on the system, and asks if you want to use the current or new drivers, be sure to select the "New" button. 12. If prompted for the driver files' location a second time, click on the "Continue" button. 13. When the message "The drivers were successfully installed" is displayed, and the drivers were loaded from a floppy diskette, remove the display driver diskette, then click on the "OK" button. 14. Back at the "Display Type" window, click on the "Close" button. 15. Back at the "Display Properties" window, click on the "Close" button. 16. When you see the "System Settings Change" window, asking if you wish to restart your computer, click on the "Yes" window to reboot now. ----------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: If installing Windows NT 4.0 with the Diamond device already installed in the system: Proceed through the Windows NT installation as normal. The installation program will prompt the user to choose a display mode. Choose the "Cancel" button from the "Display Settings" screen to ignore this step for now. The installation will now finish. Once Windows NT has started for the first time, proceed to follow the steps outlined above to install the driver for your Diamond device. 4. Known Issues ================================================================= ICT Gamma schema resets to default when color depth is changed. 5. Known Limitations ================================================================= To uninstall the Windows NT drivers you will need to rerun the ViperII Z200 Series install program and deselect the features that were installed. OpenGL is not hardware accelerated in this driver version. InControl Tools (ICT)99: InControl Tools 99 shortcuts require a system reboot to take effect when running under Windows NT. Diamond ICT99 "Internet Sites" popup requires IE3.0 or above or Netscape Communicator 4.51 or above. ICT will not be fully functional with COMCTRL32.DLL version 4.70 and earlier. This may impact Windows NT platforms. The problems experienced will included : 1) The InControl Desktop Properties will not execute. 2) The InControl Desktop Manager will not execute. To resolve this issue you can do one of the following: 1) Install a later version of COMCTRL32.DLL from the Microsoft Web Site. It is part of a self-extracting executable (50comupd.exe) which can be downloaded from Microsoft's webpage through the link at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q186/1/76.ASP Download the latest version, currently select the option "Download 50comupd.exe (x86)" 0.49 MB. 2) Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.
