Shredder deletes permanently a file. This action
cannot be undone or reversed. So, no unerase tools can retrieve the old
source (such as Norton Unerase).
There are two methods of erasing
a file. The first one is the old simple method that offers software protection
and the second one complies with C-4 protocol and offers both software and
hardware protection which means that the original source may not be retrieved
by using extra hardware equipment to read the magnetic surface of the hdd.
Note that the second method is 4 times slower than the first method but it is
also the most reliable method world wide.
This version 2.1 of Shredder, eliminates the possibility to obtain information
about file's length or version numbers.
Up
Open a file with Hackman then select Write|Shredder...
and answer yes in the confirmation box. (If you answer no then the procedure
will be terminated). The file has to be writeable (not read only). If it
is read only the use Hackman's File|Properties to uncheck the read-only
attribute. Also, if it is used by windows (ie running) then a sharing violation
will occur and the procedure will not be accomplished.
Up
There is a configuration dialog box added under
Hackman's configurations menu. In this dialog box there are three settings.
The first one determines the erase method and the second one forces shredder
to ignore if file is read-only or not. Leave this check-box unchecked if you
wish to be protected by the read-only attribute.

Hackman v4.0 or later is required for this
plugin to run. All restrictions (hardware and software) that apply to Hackman
may apply to this plugin as well.
