You can right-click just about anywhere in XMLwriter to display a context-sensitive shortcut menu. You can get help on any dialogue box by pressing the Help button in the dialogue box, or pressing F1. You can learn about any command on a menu or button on a toolbar, by placing the cursor over the command or button, and reading the status bar message at the bottom of the main window. Open the XML Guide in the XMLwriter's Help for a quick reference to XML syntax. You can open a document by dragging it from Windows Explorer to the XMLwriter work area. To preview a document you are editing, right-click the page and select the Preview in Window, or Preview in Browser option. You can change XMLwriter's syntax colours. To do so, choose Preferences from the View menu, then click the Format tab. Select the Syntax Item you want to change, and the Text Colour you want to change it to. Use the What's This? button to find out the function of a screen component. You can copy, rename, delete, or drag and drop files in Project View. You can customise menus. To do so, choose Customise... from the View menu. In the Commands box, click on the command you want to add, and drag it onto the menu. You can tile or minimise any of your open document windows. To do so, choose Windows from the Window menu, select the windows you want to tile or minimise, and click the Tile or Minimise button. You can still access the Menu Bar in Full Screen mode. You can also float the Menu Bar in Full Screen mode. You can move toolbar buttons and menus without accessing the Customise dialogue box. Simply hold down the Alt key and drag a toolbar button or menu to its new location. XMLwriter can automatically detect if the same file you are editing in the program has been externally modified. You can create your own templates in XMLwriter. Create the template and then click Save As Template... on the File menu. You can insert bookmarks in a document while you are editing to allow easy navigation. See Bookmarks on the Edit menu. You can configure external applications such as XML parsers or XSL engines to work within XMLwriter. See How To Work With User Tools in the program help. You can reposition toolbars, the Workspace, and Tool View by dragging and dropping their gripper bars. To find if you are using the latest version of XMLwriter, select Check for New Version from the Help menu. You can create new keyboard shortcuts. To do so, choose Customise... from the View menu, then click the Keyboard tab. Select the Command you want to change in the Commands box, then enter the new keyboard shortcut in the Press New Shortcut Key box. If you want to search for the next occurrence of a string, double-click on the string and press Ctrl+F3. You can close multiple documents. To do so, choose Windows from the Window menu. Select the windows you want to close, and click the Close Window(s) button. You can display multiple toolbars. On the View menu, select Toolbars. Toggle the toolbars you want to view. You can close a dialogue box by pressing ESC. You can drag and drop text within the document window. The default drag action is move. You can change the default drag action to be copy in the Preferences, or hold down the Ctrl key as you drag the selection. XMLwriter has a command line tool which lets you perform XML validation and conversion from anywhere a command line can be configured. Check it out! You can drag and drop files and folders in Project View. The default drag action is move. If you hold down the Ctrl key as you drag the selection, it will be copied. You can view whitespace in your documents. To do so, choose Preferences from the View menu, then click the Editor tab. Check the Show Whitespace box. You can quickly open the most recent files you have edited. Look under Recent Files in the File menu. To preview a document in your favourite browser, simply select Preview in Browser from the Tools menu. You can configure an external browser in Preferences. If you are validating single files, check the status bar for validation results. Press Ctrl+Tab to shift between document windows. You can indent or un-indent a block of code by highlighting it, and pressing Tab or Shift+Tab. You can use the Open URL command in the File menu to open the source of a file from a URL. You can move a window without docking it by holding down the Ctrl key down while you drag the window. You can open multiple files in the Open dialogue box, by holding down the Shift or Ctrl key down as you select each file. You can press ESC to return from Full Screen mode to normal mode. You can perform batch validation on all the XML files in a project by right-clicking on the project name and selecting Validate All XML Files from the context menu. You can change XMLwriter's font or font size. To do so, choose Preferences from the View menu, then click the Format tab. You can perform batch conversion on all the XML files in a project with XSL stylesheets. Right-click on the project name and select Convert All XML Files Using XSL from the context menu. To remove a split bar in a document window, double-click on it. You can set files to a Read Only status if you wish. To do so, select Read Only from the Edit menu. You can automatically validate XML files when you open and save them by selecting the appropriate preference in the Tools tab of the Preferences dialogue. This is the last tip.
