TESTED: This version is Tested with Windows 98, it most likely works with 95. Working with NT is unknown (wanna be a tester?). INFO: With this program you can easily remove obsolate registry entries from software that you have destroyed ages ago. Note: You canīt remove any Microsoft entries (because you must be real guru if you know a. is some product a part of windows b. can windows work without it c. do you still have it) WARNINGS: Note that if you are not 100% sure that you do not have that software, then donīt remove it. In theory, itīs not dangerous if you remove registry entries of some software that you have, most likely you just lose your settings and options for that software. But there always that risk that the software doesnīt work any more. Also, if you see some 'product' or 'company' like '!"#WFDSf"!4e2e2', you know that itīs in software section by accident, so DO NOT remove it nor DO NOT remove if you see some product twice, BACKUP: Windows (98) automatically backups your registry when your computer starts and it also checks if there something badly wrong, and if it detects errors it will restore latest backup. Read windowīs help if you want restore backup. BUILT-IN BACKUP: This backup feature slows RegCleaner, so if you donīt need it, donīt use it. What RegCleaner backups: -All DWORD (=numbers), String and Binary values -All Registry entries That RegCleaner removed. Backup files are in RegCleanerīs directory, advanced users can manually restore backups and modify them. OPTIONS 'Fast analyze' method is super fast. This method analyzes only those places where software usualy adds its entries. 'Profound analyze' method is slow, when this method is used, RegCleaner will analyze whole registry, If RegCleaner founds something suggesting that software is done some other registry entries also. If you have fast computer (> 300MHz), then you should allways use profound method. Of course if you have old and slow computer you can also use Profound method, but then it will last quite a long time. WHAT REGCLEANER DOES? (This is about RegCleaner with 'Fast analyze, see above for more details) When RegCleaner is started it analyzes you registry and reports to you what software is registered to registry. If you choose to remove some softwareīs registry entries Regcleaner first destroys it from: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software HKEY_USERS\Software HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software And then RegCleaner analyzes: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES And if RegCleaner finds something that points to the software you chose to remove, RegCleaner removes. After that RegCleaner analyzes: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths And does the same things as above. AND WHY REGCLEANER DOES THIS? Itīs good to keep registry clean, because.... well hereīs some examples when RegCleaner can truely help you: 1. You have destoyed, by mistake, some shareware program what haves 30-day trial. Ok, you later noticed that you have destroyed it. Without first removing itīs registry entries it might not be posible to install that software again (because the shareware program thinks that you have used it for 30-days and now you try to use another 30-days). 2. You have noticed that your favourite program is a bit old version and you want to download the latest version. However the program doesnīt provide any uninstalling, so you simply destroy it. But when you try to install the lates version it give an error like this "Uninstall your old version of this program and then run installation again". What now? you think, no problem, remove that programs registry entries with RegCleaner and you can continue installing the new version. (Iīm talking here about 'programs' but these examples apply to many games also.) Some programs register some filetypes (like '.txt'), when you have destroyed the program windows gives you an error when you try to run files what are registered to the program you once had. RegCleaner removes (if posible) the registrations done by that program you have chose to remove with RegCleaner. When you try to run files which were registered to this program you had, windows will show a dialog and ask what program you now want to use with this filetype. Note that in some cases the program doesnīt write to registry what program have made these filetype registrations then regcleaner canīt help you (again, itīs not RegCleanerīs fault). WHY REGCLEANER SOMETIMES SHOWS SOMETHING WRONG? Some programs do not follow the standard way to register software to registry, the standard is: to \software key first add \Company and then \product, still some programs write like this: to \software they add \product and so RegCleaner will show sometimes wrong, so itīs not RegCleaners fault. e.g news readers NewsXpress and X-News does this wrong. HOW TO GET LATEST VERSION? Come to my web site. http://www.saunalahti.fi/jv16 HOW TO REPORT A BUG: First, check my homepage to ensure you have the latest version. If you have, and still there is a bug then e-mail me at least: -when this bug occurs -what it does -what version of windows you have MISC: If you dont want to wait 1 second to see how long time RegCleaner worked, then move mouse cursor to the box where the information is and it will go away.
