The program can help you organize your applications and files with groups of "palettes." Palettes are menu pages (a simple window or tabbed folder) with buttons. You can put as many buttons as you like on a palette, and each button can perform one of over 20 different actions. You can change a button's color, picture and text, and play a WAV file when it is clicked. A button may contain another group of palettes, and you can even password protect your palettes to make sure they are not changed. With the click of a button, ToolPAL can navigate the Internet, open a registered file type, launch a program, command other Windows applications, store and retrieve Clipboard objects, manage nine virtual desktops, exit or restart Windows, and much more. ToolPAL comes pre-configured to work with Microsoft Office applications, and you can easily add new applications using a point-and-click user interface. After configuring an application, all you need to do is select commands that you want buttons to execute. The palette then behaves as the application's toolbar, automatically disappearing when the application is minimized, and automatically closing when you exit the application. The ToolPAL status bar even has a clock with a programmable alarm and countdown timer. ToolPAL also provides a graphical "Task Manager" that shows detailed information about (and can, in emergency situations, terminate and remove from memory) any Windows executable or DLL. ToolPAL can display, print, or save Windows system information, including MS-DOS version, Windows version, Windows mode, "temp file" directory, Windows directory, CPU type, available memory, User Memory, GDI memory, total conventional memory, total extended memory, swap file size, and available hard disk space for each local and network drive.
