7-Zip Archiver is a command-line utility for manipulating ZIP archives.
The program features two to ten percent higher compression ratios than PKZip and WinZip. 

7-Zip Archiver creates fully ZIP compatible archives that anyone can decompress using any ZIP compatible decompression utility. The program compresses files using "Store" and "Deflate" methods only. 

7-ZIP can extract any files from ZIP archives that were compressed via the "Store," "Implode," or "Deflate" method. These three supported methods are the most common, but because the program cannot extract files compressed with other ZIP compression method, you may at some point need another ZIP utility. Of course, 7-ZIP can decompress any archive that it creates. 

7-ZIP does not support multi-volume archives, most SFX archives, or encrypted files.
