AxMan is a highly featured file splitter. These features include:
- AxMan will split any file, regardless of type (".zip", ".exe",
etc.), size (no pesky 4.2 Gb file size restrictions) or filename type (short or long).
- AxMan will restore the file back to its original state for you.
- AxMan can zip the file(s) to be split before splitting it. AxMan can also
automatically unzip the file being restored.
- You can specify more than 1 file to be split at a time. AxMan can either zip all
of the files specified into 1 archive and then split the single file or AxMan can run in
batch mode and split each file specified 1 at a time.
- AxMan will fit the pieces onto any disks that you have lying around. There are no pesky
requirements that the disk be empty. AxMan will simply size each piece so that it fits as
much onto each disk as possible. (NOTE: AxMan does not currently support splitting
directly to a CR-RW).
AxMan can split your file directly to your floppy disks. There is no need to
split the file to your hard drive first and then manually copy the files to your floppies.
- AxMan can split files into any size pieces.
AxMan supports drag and drop so you can select the file(s) that you want to split
directly from the Windows Explorer window and drag and drop them into AxMan.
- By default, AxMan will automatically calculate a CRC-32 checksum (same checksum that is
used by the Ethernet) for each split piece and include it. This checksum allows AxMan to
guarantee that the restored file is EXACTLY the same as the original. The
calculation is so quick that you won't be able to tell any performance difference between
using it and not using it. Nonetheless, there is an option to turn it off. NOTE:
Option unavailable when splitting to Non-Axman format.
- Any file that is split with the checksum included can be verified at any time. AxMan
will allow you to verify any individual split file or the entire split set. AxMan can also
verify each split as soon as they are created.
- Automatically include a restore-only, royalty free version of AxMan
- Included with each version of AxMan (from v2.10 on) is a royalty free, restore-only
version of AxMan (AxManRestore.exe). This version of AxMan can be freely distributed to
any one. AxMan can automatically include a copy of this program with the last split piece.
Therefore, you can split any file, and share it with a friend that does not own a copy of
AxMan!
- Right-click in explorer to send any file to AxMan
- AxMan automatically configures itself during installation, so that the user can
right-click on any file in explorer and select "SendTo" -> "AxMan".
AxMan will automatically start up in split mode with the selected file already entered.
- Double-click any ".axman" file in explorer to automatically start
restoring
- AxMan automatically registers the ".axman" extension at installation time, so
that the user can double-click on any existing ".axman" file to start AxMan in
restore mode with the double-clicked file already selected. NOTE: You do need to
select the last file in the split set.
- AxMan provides full installation and deinstallation support.
Simply run setup.exe to install, and use the add/remove programs icon in Control Panel to
deinstall. It's that simple.
- Split to Non-AxMan format
- If, for any reason, you do not want AxMan to split to its proprietary format, AxMan can
do so. This feature can be useful for those users that need to have their files restored
on Non-Windows platforms, or prefer to use batch files to restore. Note, that when
selecting this feature, AxMan can restore the file for you, but will be unable to use the
checksum option and will not be able to tell when the restore process is done (since it
will have no way of knowing how may pieces are in the split set).
- Create a batch file for restoring
- If the file is split to Non-AxMan format, then AxMan can create a batch file for you to
restore the file.
- Generate 8.3 compliant file names
If you are splitting files that you want to restore on Win3.1 or DOS then you may want
to select this option. AxMan can generate split file names that are 8.3 compliant and when
you restore the file on Win3.1 or DOS, the restored filename will also be 8.3 compliant.
- Ability to split and restore file to a user specified name
AxMan allows the user to specify the target names of the split files and the name that
a file will be restored to.
- Remove split and restore files automatically
- AxMan can automatically remove the file being split for you. AxMan can also
automatically remove the split pieces as the file is being restored.
- AxMan can prompt you to format each disk that it splits files to
- Customizations, customizations, customizations ...
- AxMan offers also sorts of customization options that allow you to set the default
behavior to the way you prefer to use AxMan.
