Year 2000 Information Ferret - Instructions for version 1.3 1/5/1999 Introduction This software is designed to help you determine the Year 2000 status of Novell software on your NetWare servers. This software will collect data from servers that are accessible at the time the software is executed and when sent to Novell for analysis, will result in a status report for your Novell products found on your Novell server(s). The data collected includes company, individual and server specific information such as NLMs loaded, OS version, etc. Installation Prior to installation of the Ferret, please read the Novell Year 2000 Information Ferret License and Limited Warranty. In addition to the other terms and conditions in the license agreement, there are Transmission and Utilization of Data issues that you should be familiar with prior to use of this software. Hardware Requirements This program requires the following workstation configurations. a) Windows 95/98 or NT b) Novell NetWare client 32 software (required) c) Connection to your Novell network d) Internet connection and Web browser for transfer of data to Novell (optional) e) Email for transfer of data to Novell (optional) Server and User access rights requirements This program will operate with NetWare versions 3.xx, 4.xx, and NetWare 5. The data provided by this software will depend on the NetWare version. NetWare 2.xx and 3.xx require "Supervisor" rights and NetWare 4.xx and NetWare 5 require the user to be "Admin" or have "Console Operator" rights. If you do not have the proper access rights the ability of this software to provide the Year 2000 status of Novell products is limited. Please give this software to your network administrator if you do not have these access rights. Install the Year 2000 Information Ferret From the directory you saved the download to, run Ferret.exe to extract the files, then run Setup to install. It is recommended that you use the default directory for installation so the balance of the instructions and Help agree. Diskette installation: a) Insert the diskette in drive A: b) From Windows Start menu select Run c) Enter: a:setup.exe Select OK The installation process will run and create a Program Group and icon called "Ferret" Running the program a) From the Start menu, select Programs folder, select Ferret folder and select Ferret b) Select the "Profile" button and complete the information (if not completed you will be prompted prior to the scan process running. The KEY CODE acquired from the download site or from printed material you received is required in the Profile c) Select the desired servers (none are selected by default) d) Press "Scan servers" to initiate the server scan process e) When finished scanning servers, press the Send button and select a method to send the data to Novell WARNING: Operation of this software in a WAN environment may consume excessive network bandwidth and this software may time-out across slow WAN links. To avoid this, please distribute this application and execute the software during non business hours (if scanning a large number of servers).
