Shortly atter death of king Jiri the castle of Podebrady passed into the possession of the Czech Crown and after taking up of Habsburk house, the castle was significantly reconstructed from the former fort into Renaissance King's seat, which was determined to intermittent stay of sovereign's family members joined with hunting and other recreation.

     Since that times many events occurred, the most important happened in 1905. At that time prince Hohenlohe, the owner of the estate, initiated a search for drinking water on the second courtyard. It seemed for a very long time that the attempt would not be successful, nevertheless, when the depth over 90 metres was reached a strong water spring shot up. A big content of gas and mineral agents were found in this water. This discovery was the beginning of an era of Podebrady's spa based on curative effects of the local water. A favour of Podebrady was attended by a town-planning transformation and establishing of parks inside of the town and forestparks outside of the town.

     Spa offer their services above all to the patients with illnesses of blood circulation, but are pleasant also for healthy people because the spa give also some sorts of recreation stays with refreshing water cures and similar pleasantness. Cure is complemented by excursions, visits, culture and if the visitor is able then also by sport. It is possible to play tennis, ride a horse, play golf and in summer days to have a bath in a lake. Following with activities of sport clubs some meaningful races regularly take place in Podebrady - walkers races "Podebrady's fifty" international championship of the Czech Republic in tennis, championship of the Czech Republic in triathlon, marathon of paraplegics "Meyra cup" etc. Nor culture is behindhand - " Poetry days of Podebrady" take place here in the spring. Spa and also other institutions organise concerts of different sorts of music and also some actions for experts are open to public.

     There is only a little industry in Podebrady. Glass manufacture, which started 120 years ago, is most important. The glass manufacture developed from only user assortment to plumbic crystal master processing. In more shops in Podebrady can be found rich assortment of cut glass, but also painted glass or glass decorated in another way. Products of local masters go to the whole world and they decorate both palaces and current households.

     The town is also fond of education. There are a few grammar schools in the town. One of them, grammar school of Jiri of Podebrady is well known by its history. At the beginning of its existence the school served also as a boarding school with some features of scouts education. Among the students of this grammar school were also some today well known personages - our present president Vaclav Havel, film producer Milos Forman, Polish producer Jerzy Skolimowski etc. There are large accommodation and refreshment capacities in Podebrady, so we are not afraid to invite you to visit our town.
