V souΦasnΘ dob∞ provozuji poslednφ verzi SleΦny a nedßvno jsem s nφ m∞l urΦitΘ potφ₧e. Odjak₧iva provozuji PiteeSKamarady 1.0 jako svoji zßkladnφ aplikaci a vÜechny verze SleΦny, kterΘ jsem zkusil, se s touto aplikacφ hßdaly. SlyÜel jsem, ₧e PiteeSKamarady 1.0 b∞hß docela dob°e, pokud mßte SleΦnu b∞₧et jen na pozadφ a s vypnut²m zvukem. Zdß se, ze SleΦna mß takΘ Φasto problΘmy b∞₧et souΦasn∞ s m²m programem Golfu a Ly₧ovßnφ a Φasto se sna₧φ Golf nebo Ly₧ovßnφ zruÜit kv∙li jakΘsi ΦasovΘ nesluΦitelnosti.
Na druhou stranu PiteeSKamarady 1.0 neprojevuje naprosto ₧ßdnΘ konflikty nebo nesluΦitelnost s m²m programem Golfu nebo Ly₧ovßnφ.
Asi jsem m∞l z∙stat u verze SleΦna 1.0, ale m∞l jsem za to, ₧e SleΦna 2.0 by mi mohla p°inΘst lepÜφ v²kon. Po m∞sφcφch konflikt∙ a dalÜφch problΘm∙ jsem se poradil s kamarßdem, kter² ji₧ mß se SleΦnou 2.0 urΦitΘ zkuÜenosti. ╪φkal, ₧e pro provozovßnφ SleΦny 2.0 nemßm pravd∞podobn∞ dost cache a k tomu, aby po°ßdn∞ chodila, bude pr² asi vy₧adovat Token Ring...
M∞l pravdu. Jakmile mi doÜla cache a jakmile jsem zjistil, ₧e nikdo, kdo mß jen troÜku zdravΘho rozumu, u₧ Token Ring neinstaluje, odinstalovala se SleΦna 2.0 automaticky sama. Brzy potom jsem instaloval beta verzi SleΦny 3.0. Bohu₧el v programu se vyskytla n∞jakß chybka a p°i prvnφm pou₧itφ mne zavirovala. Musel jsem si vyΦistit cel² systΘm a dßt si na chvφli voraz. Velmi opatrn∞ jsem upgradoval na SleΦnu 4.0. Tentokrßt jsem pou₧il SCSI sondu a navφc jsem nainstaloval protivirovou ochranu. V tΘhle konfiguraci to fungovalo bezvadn∞, dokud jsem nezjistil, ₧e SleΦna 1.0 na mΘm systΘmu jeÜt∞ stßle b∞₧φ. Sna₧il jsem se znovu po°ßdn∞ rozchodit SleΦnu 1.0 a p°itom nechat SleΦnu 4.0 nainstalovanou. SleΦna 4.0 mela ale novou funkci, o kterΘ jsem nev∞d∞l: byla schopnß detekovat p°φtomnost jinΘ verze SleΦny v systΘmu, a dokonce s nφ jak²msi zp∙sobem komunikovat. V²sledkem bylo okam₧itΘ smazßnφ obou verzφ...
Verze, kterou mßm te∩, b∞hß velmi p∞kn∞, ale i s nφ jsou urΦitΘ problΘmy. Stejn∞ jako ostatnφ verze SleΦny je psanß v n∞jakΘm obskurnφm jazyce, kterΘmu prakticky v∙bec nerozumφm, nato₧ abych ji byl v tomto jazyce schopen p°eprogramovat. Poctiv∞ °eΦeno, mßm za to, ₧e se v∞nuje p°φliÜ mnoho pozornosti vzhledu a dojmu, ne₧ po₧adovanΘ funkΦnosti. Pro sluÜnΘ propojenφ s vaÜφm hardwarem navφc obvykle pot°ebujete pozlacenΘ kontakty. A takΘ se mi nelφbilo, jak jsou vÜechny SleΦny äobjektov∞ orientovanΘ".
P°ed rokem upgradoval jeden m∙j kamarßd svoji SleΦnu na verzi SleΦna Plus! 1.0, kterß je äTerminate and Stay Resident" - to jest i po vypnutφ z∙stßvß v systΘmu. Zjistil pak ale, ₧e SleΦna Plus! 1.0 po roce p°estane chodit, pokud ji neupgradujete na Snoubenku 1.0. Kamarßd to ud∞lal, ale brzy musel Snoubenku 1.0 upgradovat na Manzhelku 1.0, kterß pr² nemilosrdn∞ likviduje jeho zdroje. Zabrala mu veÜker² prostor a nedovolφ mu p°itßhnout si cokoliv jinΘho. Jeden z primßrnφch d∙vod∙, pro kter² se odhodlal k upgradu na Manzhelku 1.0 byla skuteΦnost, ₧e podle reklamy m∞l balφk s Manzhelkou 1.0 obsahovat jeÜt∞ dodatkov² program SexZdarmaPlus - kamarßd pr² cht∞l vyzkouÜet zejmΘna n∞jak² nov² plug-in. A jeÜt∞ ke vÜemu musφ b²t systΘm p∞kn∞ zah°ßt² abyste s nφ mohli cokoliv d∞lat. AΦkoliv o to kamarßd ne₧ßdal, s Manzhelkou 1.0 mu p°iÜla i Tchyhne, kterß se automaticky startuje jako pop-up a nelze ji vypnout. ╪ekl jsem mu, a¥ si zkusφ nainstalovat Milenku 1.0, ale kamarßd pr² slyÜel, ₧e kdy₧ nainstalujete Milenku 1.0 ani₧ byste p°edem odinstalovali Manzhelku 1.0, p°epφÜe vßm Manzhelka 1.0 vÜechny soubory MSMoney a pak se sama odinstaluje. Milenka 1.0 se pak odinstaluje tak jako tak, proto₧e nebudete mφt dost zdroj∙.

A Bloke's Software Compatibility Problems
I'm currently running the latest version of Girlfriend and I've been having some problems lately. I've been running the same version of
DrinkingBuddies 1.0 forever as my primary application, and all the Girlfriend releases I've tried have always conflicted with it. I hear that DrinkingBuddies 1.0 runs fine as long as Girlfriend is run in
thebackground mode and the sound is turned off... Girlfriend also seems to have a problem coexisting with my Golf and Skiing programs, often trying to shut down Golf and or Skiing with some sort of timing incompatiblity. On a positive note, DrinkingBuddies 1.0 and Golf/Skiing seem to have no incompatibilities whatsoever...
I probably should have stayed with Girlfriend 1.0, but I thought I might see better performance from Girlfriend 2.0. After months of conflicts and other problems, I consulted a friend who has had experience with Girlfriend 2.0. He said I probably didn't have enough cache to run Girlfriend 2.0, and eventually it would require a Token Ring to run properly...
He was right. As soon as I purged my cache, and realized that no one in their right mind was installing new Token Rings anymore, Girlfriend 2.0 uninstalled itself. Shortly after that, I installed Girlfriend 3.0 beta. Unfortunately, there was a bug in the program and the first time I used it, it gave me a virus. I had to clean out my whole system and shut down for a while. I very cautiously upgraded to Girlfriend 4.0 This time I used a SCSI probe first and also installed a virus protection program. It worked okay for a while until I discovered that Girlfriend 1.0 was still in my system. I tried running Girlfriend 1.0 again with Girlfriend 4.0 still installed, but Girlfriend 4.0 has a feature I didn't know about that automatically senses the presence of any other version of Girlfriend and communicates with it in some way. This results in the immediate removal of both versions...
The version I have now works pretty well, but there are still some problems. Like all versions of Girlfriend, it is written in some
obscure language I can't understand, much less re-program. Frankly, I
think there is too much attention paid to the look and feel rather
than the desired functionality. Also, to get the best connections with
your hardware, you usually have to use gold-plated contacts...
And I've never liked how Girlfriend is "object-oriented." A year ago, a friend of mine upgraded his version of Girlfriend to Girlfriend Plus 1.0, which is Terminate and Stay Resident version of Girlfriend. He discovered that Girlfriend Plus 1.0 expires within a year if you don't upgrade to Fiancee 1.0. So he did, but soon after that,he had to upgrade to Wife 1.0, which he describes as a huge resource hog. It has taken up all his space and he can't load anything else. One of the primary reasons he decided to go with Wife 1.0 was because it supposedly came bundled with a feature called FreeSexPlus. Well, it turn out the resource requirements of Wife 1.0 sometimes prohibits access to FreeSexPlus, particularly the new Plug-Ins he wanted to try. On top of that, Wife 1.0 must be running on a well warmed-up system before he can do anything Although he did not ask for it, Wife 1.0 came with MotherInLaw, which has an automatic pop-up feature he can't turn off. I told him to try installing Mistress 1.0, but he heard that if you try to run it without first uninstalling Wife 1.0, Wife 1.0 will delete MSMoney files before uninstalling itself. Then Mistress 1.0 won't install anyway because of insufficient resources...
