Wirephones

Wirephones use the same principle as tape recorders, i.e. a magnetic recording of sound on a moving magnetic carrier. This carrier is in case of wirephone a thin steel wire of the diameter about 0.1 mm. The wire moves with the speed 1 m/s. The collection of the National Technical Museum contains, in addition to several wirephones Paratus made around 1950 by the Czechoslovak firm MEOPTA Prerov, also a very nice wirephone of the German firm Lorenz from the 40s designed for recording of phone calls, a wirephone of American provenance (Webster Chicago) and several wirephones of amateur design made around 1950.
