Johannes Kepler

German mathematician and astronomer who came to Prague on invitation of Tycho Brahe. He practised here from 1600 to 1612. On the basis of his own and Tycho's observations he derived in Prague two of his three laws of planet movements and published them in the work "Astronomia nova". In 1610 he used the Galileo's telescope in his observations for the first time. In his work "Dioptrice" he described not only the well-known Galileo's telescope but also a new type that was named after him and has been used up to now.
