The exhibition offers a chronological survey of the
development of time-measuring methods from the Middle Ages
till present time.
The opening part of the exhibition shows so-called
rudimentary time-measuring devices: sundials, water-, fire-
and sand-clocks.
The main part, however, is devoted to development of
mechanical cog-wheel clocks from the 13th century till now.
A visitor can see various types and forms of these clocks
from tower clocks, via interior clocks of different styles
and types to pocket and wrist watches and special
time-measuring instruments. Particular attention is paid to
technical development of clock machines and the important
milestones in this development, such as the invention of
pendulum in the 17th century. An attractive part of the
exhibition is represented by astronomical clocks.
Another part of the exhibition is devoted to utilizing
electrical principles in clockmaking. A gradual development
documented here ranges from electro-mechanical systems, via
electric synchronous clocks to purely electronic clocks for
scientific purposes as well as for general use.
The closing part of the exposition is devoted to examples of
clockmaking technology. A part of exhibits (e.g. tower
clock) is shown in a running state.
