The sugar industry collections are the oldest collections in
the Museum. The collection was based on the exhibits from
the exhibition of the Trade-Commercial Chamber held in
Prague in 1908 and it was gradually enlarged. The most
important exhibit is a model of sugar factory from 1908 in
the scale 1:10 with the inventory number 1 representing
a typical Czech sugar factory of the daily capacity 500 tons
of sugar beet. The model is realized with the finest details
and its dimensions are 8.7 m (width), 4.7 m (depth) and
3.5 m (height).
The samples of raw materials, intermediate products and
products come from the period between 1870 and 1890.
The group of laboratory instruments and equipment includes
a unique collection of sugar-making polarimeters (about 20
pieces) the oldest of which dates back to the period around
1860, the collection of laboratory glass, various
densimeters, balances, pycnometers and flow-through meters.
