The oldest period of chemistry is represented in the
collections by a complete alchemy laboratory. Its outfit and
equipment are mostly replicas of vessels and tools from the
late 15th century that were made in Glass Works Kavalier
Sazava in 1914 or were made by Otakar Zachar in Kladno. The
collection includes glass retorts, alembics, earthenware
such as aludel, muffle, crucible, anvil, a primitive device
for measuring furnace glow, distilling apparatus, iron tongs
and pokers.
The whole collection, including furniture and mock-up
furnaces, was handed over to the Office of President of the
Republic and is included within a permanent exhibition in
the Mihulka Tower at the Prague Castle where, together with
artistic works, it documents the times of Rudolf II.
