Either total loss or serious impairment of one's vision may cause radical change in one's life. Performing of many daily routine tasks may be made virtually unaccomplishable, your job may be threatened, and many hobbies and pass times may become apparently beyond your reach. Relationships in a family, with friends as well as with other people may be exposed to greater strain. . . . This is just that moment when one may need some outside help as with such help many of the above mentioned problems can be coped with fairly successfully. One of possible solutions lies in taking advantage of services of the TyphloService, a division of Czech Blind United.

What is available:

mobility and long cane training, how to walk with an escort, individual route training;
daily living skills (cooking, cleaning, care of clothing, personal hygiene, child care, simple maintenance work, etc.);
Braille training (reading and writing skills, including plate-and-stylus);
personal signature training;
counselling in designing environment adaptations and eliminating of architectural barriers with respect to the needs of the visually-impaired;
training in communication skills in general and for specific behavioral situations in particular (on public transport, in shops etc.);
training in tactile perception of relief pictures and in creating such relief representations;
training in the use of several types of adaptive equipment and providing acquisition information (e.g. CCTVs, optical aids, dls aids, Braille reading and writing equipment, mobility aids, etc.);
comprehensive information on blindness matters and mediation of other services.

Our services are designed virtually for any visually-impaired individual: for people who have gone blind in adulthood; for people who have been blind since their childhood or birth; for both novices and old hands. The bottom eligibility line is the age of l 5. Our services are free.

It is possible to administer the course in its completeness or in part, depending on individual needs and possibilities of the client whose wishes are acknowledged. What is especially emphasized is the field, one- to-one work with a client, i.e. provision in his local setting, at his/her workplace etc. Apart from this, we provide training in our day-care centres for those clients who would prefer it. Where desirable and appropriate, other family members participate in the training programmes.

Regional TyfloService Centres ("Oases") have been established in 12cities around the country; thus, our provision covers the whole territory of the Czech Republic.

We are open for the public every Thursday from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
