The CoreBuilder from the 3Com company is a modular high speed switch on the third layer, designed for use as a bone switch and router. The modular chassis of the CoreBuilder 3500 contains 4 slots for additional modules and it is possible to equip it with a power backup. Thanks to the FIRE (Flexible Intelligent Routing Engine) architecture, it enables you to switch and route the unicast, broadcast and multicast packets on all ports at a rate of 4 million packets/sec, which is the maximum speed for the given number of ports. CoreBuilder 3500 supports routing for IP, IPX and AppleTalk protocols.
