----------------------------- Space Hawk Free Beta v2.0 ----------------------------- ------------------------------------------- About the game: ------------------------------------------- This is a 2D scrolling gravity shooter for Windows, using DirectX 6.1 or newer. The object of the game is stop (the very evil) Dr. Evil from conquering earth, and to kill and capture his evil Alien buddies. the gameplay is similar to that of other games in the genre, inspired by such games as 'Gravity Force' for the Amiga. See 'Playing the game' further down for instructions on how to control the ship. This game can be played single-player, or two players againt each other on the same computer (with the screen split in two halves.) NOTE: For two player games, I recommend running the fifth level, 'Arena'. It's created solely for multiplayer games. ------------------------------------------- Installation: ------------------------------------------- Run Setup.exe and follow the instructions. It's really easy. ------------------------------------------- Uninstallation: ------------------------------------------- Remove the directory in which you installed the game. No files are copied to any locations outside of this directory. ------------------------------------------- Starting the game: ------------------------------------------- Select 'Space Hawk (Beta 2)' from the start menu. If you've used the installation standard settings, it's in the group 'Space Hawk'. ------------------------------------------- Playing the game ------------------------------------------- From the intro screen (with the scrolling text), press ESCAPE. This brings up the menu from which you can start a new game. Network play is not yet completely finished in this version, but one and two player games work fine. The objective of the game varies from level to level. For example: * In the first level, you have to destroy or pick up the engine-power-crystal, which is a small blue-white animated lightning-thingy. * In the second and third levels, pick up or shoot (kill) all the aliens in the level. After completing these mission objectives, land at one of the bases (any one of them) to move on to the next level. In the game, use the following keys to move the ship: UP: Throttle LEFT: Turn counter-clockwise RIGHT: Turn clockwise L. CTRL: Fire!! Or, if you want to use the mouse: 1st MOUSE BUTTON: Throttle MOUSE LEFT: Turn counter-clockwise MOUSE RIGHT: Turn clockwise 2nd MOUSE BUTTON: Fire!! Also: SHIFT: Change weapon (once you have picked some up) ESCAPE: Brings up the menu For two player games, the second player uses these keys: W: Throttle A: Turn counter-clockwise S: Turn clockwise The first player now shoots with the right CTRL, and the 2nd player with the left CTRL. ------------------------------------------- Starting the level editor: ------------------------------------------- Select 'Level editor' from the start menu. If you've used the installation standard settings, it's in the group 'Space Hawk'. ------------------------------------------- Using the level editor: ------------------------------------------- After starting the editor, select 'Help/Contents' and read the tutorials. Alternatively, select 'Editor help file' from the start menu. ------------------------------------------- Contacting the author: ------------------------------------------- This game was conceived, written and having-fun-playtesting-tested by Tobias Hellman.
