Hint 2 of 7:

Before doing anything in an area, move the cursor around to identify 
everything in the area.

Hint 3 of 7:

Click on everything that is identified (except exits) at least once.

Hint 4 of 7:

Remember what it says in the manual about using objects in your inventory on 
other objects in the inventory.

Hint 5 of 7:

Some objects have other objects inside them.

Hint 6 of 7:

When you get an object, go to the inventory and highlight it with the mouse.
If there's anything inside it, it will appear below the cursor.
