How do I navigate the mine car?

For starters just follow the rails.

The switches on the control panel can be used to drive the mine car.

Pushing the left switch up will drive the mine car from the ore processing
plant to the melting room or to the room with the trapdoor (depending on how
the rails are set).  Pushing both switches up will reverse this process.

Hint 8 of 8:

If you send it to the trapdoor room, you'll have to make sure that the rails
at the fork just before it, are set correctly for the mine car to enter the
room.
