2. TECHNICAL SET UP
Setting up your technical details
Before connecting to Wireplay for the first time, you must provide some details about your computer. (Note: You can change these details anytime you're not connected to Wireplay.)
- Launch your Wireplay program and wait for the WHO ARE YOU? screen to appear.
- Click on the 'Set up' button.
- On the SET UP screen, enter your details as follows:
Game selection
- On the 'List of Games', click on the title of any game which you know is installed on your computer. (Note: only the games on this list can be played via Wireplay.)
- Click on the 'Add' button to move the selected title to the 'Selected games' list.
- Repeat 1 & 2 until all the Wireplay supported games you have on your computer are shown in the 'Selected games' list.
- Alongside each title in the 'Selected games' list, you will see Wireplay's best guess at the game's location on your hard disk, e.g. C:\games\descent\descentr.exe. If this is wrong, you can change it by typing in the current location (you should know this from when you first installed the game: if you can't remember, you'll need to use the DIR command in DOS or the Windows File Manager/Windows Explorer to find out.)
(Important: for some games, additional information should be entered here - please consult the individual game data sheets that came with your Wireplay pack. When you're connected to Wireplay, you can also obtain the latest list of Wireplay-supported games by clicking here, or by clicking on the 'News' button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.)
- To remove a title from the 'Selected games' list, click on it and then click on the 'Remove' button.
Communications port selection
Indicate which communications port is being used by your modem by clicking on the appropriate 'Coms port' button. If you're not sure, ask the person who first set up the modem.
Modem selection
- On the 'Modem type' list, find the name of your modem and click on it . This will copy the name into the box below the list and enter a string of text in the 'Initialisation string' box. (If you need to, you can edit this text to suit any particular requirements your modem may have.) Note: if your particular modem is not listed, find 'Hayes compatible' and click on that.
- Indicate your modem's speed by clicking on one of the four 'Speed' buttons. If none of the indicated speeds exactly matches yours, click on the next highest. (Note: Wireplay will not work with modems slower than 9600 bps.)
Dialling prefix
If you're connecting to Wireplay through an office switchboard or some other system where you need to dial a special prefix (typically '9') to get an outside line, type the required prefix into the 'Telephone number prefix' box.
When you're happy that all these details are correct, click on the 'Save' button.
To leave this screen without saving the details you've just entered, click on the 'Cancel' button.
