================================================================= README.TXT 12/09/94 ================================================================= This README file contains information about enhancements and changes made to PerfectOffice 3.0 for Windows that were not documented in the PerfectOffice 3.0 Up and Running Guide. In addition to this README file, there are separate README files for specific applications in the suite. There is also README.NET, which contains information about running PerfectOffice on a network; and README.LCN, which contains information about licencing. This README file contains the following information. 1 Using DAD to tile non-PerfectOffice applications 2 Playing QuickTasks that execute GroupWise commands 3 Running the PerfectOffice QuickTour on a system using non-standard OEM windows video drivers 4 Conventional Memory on an IBM Thinkpad 5 Using DAD when running PerfectOffice on OS/2 6 Replacing Envoy 1.0 with Envoy 1.0a 7 Using DAD with Paradox USING DAD TO TILE NON-PERFECTOFFICE APPLICATIONS ================================================================= The "Tile PerfectOffice Applications" DAD button (located on the PerfectOffice DAD bar) arranges open PerfectOffice application windows in smaller sizes to fit next to each other on the desktop. You can use this button to tile other applications that are open on the desktop by modifying your WIN.INI file. 1 Open the WIN.INI file in Notepad or in another text editor. 2 Search for the [Desktop Application Director] section and add entries according to this example: "TileApp#=WRITE.EXE" (where # is a number above 7 and WRITE.EXE is the executable filename of the application you wish to tile) PLAYING QUICKTASKS THAT EXECUTE GROUPWISE COMMANDS ================================================================= 1 When you play a QuickTask that executes a GroupWise command on the File menu, the applications involved in the QuickTask must already be running. RUNNING THE PERFECTOFFICE QUICKTOUR ON A SYSTEM USING NON-STANDARD OEM WINDOWS VIDEO DRIVERS ================================================================== If your system uses a non-standard OEM Windows video driver, you may encounter display problems or application errors when running the PerfectOffice QuickTour. If so, try selecting a standard video driver, such as VGA or Super VGA 800 x 600, or select an OEM driver with a lower resolution. The QuickTour has been tested on systems equipped with all VGA resolutions with good results using standard Windows video drivers and common OEM drivers. CONVENTIONAL MEMORY ON AN IBM THINKPAD ================================================================= If you drop below 475K of conventional memory on an IBM Thinkpad, DAD cannot be started from the StartUp Group in Program Manager. To solve this problem, you must either free up more than 475K of conventional memory, or remove DAD from the Startup Group in Program Manager. USING DAD WHEN RUNNING PERFECTOFFICE ON OS/2 ================================================================= When running PerfectOffice on OS/2, you should be aware of the following limitations regarding the Desktop Application Director (DAD): 1 On startup, DAD will always be configured as a palette. 2 The options Auto Hide and Always on Top are not functional in a seamless window. REPLACING ENVOY 1.0 WITH ENVOY 1.0A ================================================================= If you are replacing Envoy 1.0 with Envoy 1.0a, you can delete the files in ENVOY\PROGS and remove the directory. You should not try to run Envoy 1.0 after you have installed Envoy 1.0a. USING DAD WITH PARADOX ================================================================= When creating a DAD button for Paradox, you must specify a "/b" startup option on the command line to avoid trying to start Paradox for a second time if Paradox is already running. USING UNINSTALL WITH OBEX ================================================================= The Uninstall option will not delete the \OFFICE\SHARED\OBEX\OBJSTORE subdirectory. This directory contains outgoing and incoming publications sent via OBEX using the Publish and Subscribe features available in most PerfectOffice applications. You can delete this directory and the files contained therein if you no longer need to publish objects or subscribe to objects others have published to you. END
