README.TXT for WindowControl 1.45 ================================= Contents -------- Introduction Key Features What's New Bugs Fixed Installation & Uninstalling Updates and Other Programs System Requirements Registration Legal Distribution License Comments and Suggestions Introduction ------------ WindowControl allows the user to manipulate desktop windows as their leisure. You can manually hide, move, resize or rename any program window. One of the most powerful things about WindowControl is that you can set it up to do these things automatically. Read the help files to find out how to do this. Once you start using WindowControl, I am sure that you will find it far more powerful and useful than any other program of this type. That is why it was created. Plenty programs exist to hide windows, or to minimise windows, etc, but none have all the features built into the one easy to use program. WindowControl also has many useful features that I've not seen in any other programs. Key Features ------------ * Automatically hide or move any program or programs * Hide and restore any window * Top and Un-top any window * Minimise all, Hide All and quickly Restore All * Rename any window * Shutdown or restart your PC quickly. * And lots more... What's New ---------- Version 1.45 * Fuzzy titles. Can control windows with incomplete titles. * When AutoPlacing entries before in 'Normal' state, you had to specify a value for these entries. This meant the entry always moved and sized. Now you can specify a blank value, and that attribute of the window will not be altered. Version 1.4 * Streamlined the code to make the program faster. * UNDO. You can now undo hide, rename, minimise, maximise and restoring windows. * You can now hide all windows as well as minimising all windows. With the preferences dialog, you can set certain windows to not be included in either of these procedures. * You can restore individual AutoHide entries. * When you rename a window, it keeps the focus in the window list. * Minor improvements to the Preferences interface. * You can set the interval for AutoHide. * Other minor improvements... Version 1.3 V1.30 is a complete redesign of the programs interface, and has a plethora of new features. * Added a menu for easier access to features. * Changed and added some shortcut keys. * You can save a programs icon to a bitmap. * Quickly copy a programs title, handle, class or path to the clipboard. * Added functionality to restart windows, restart your PC, or shutdown windows. * You can now restore all AutoHide entries without closing WindowControl. Version 1.2 * Wizard for adding new windows or classes * Quick picker when shrunk * You can start shrunken to save space * Can now shrink to the right hand side of the screen * AutoPlace list is now sorted Bugs Fixed ---------- Version 1.45 * No longer able to rename a window to be blank. * Fixed default size to 1280*1024, was 1200*1024 by mistake. * Fixed not showing visible options when change from hidden to invisible. * A few other minor fixes. Version 1.4 * First AutoPlace entry was still not showing properly. * Deleting AutoPlace entries didn't remove INI settings. * When a program closed, you could still try to add it to the AutoPlace list, causing a GPF. * Fixed OS bug so that program works better under Windows NT. * Fixed AutoTop bug where focus kept going to windows that were being topped. Now a window is only topped when it is first found. * Minimise all is now quicker, and remembers previous window placements (i.e. works as standard Windows minimise all, except it is neater and faster). * If main screen was too big, other dialogs could be off screen, now they are centred. Version 1.3 * Added a lot of error handling to make WindowControl far more stable. * Only remembered window position if closed WindowControl by the system menu. * Focus wasn't being set to Preferences dialog sometimes. Version 1.2 * When first ran, AutoPlace didn't pick up the first new item * Preferences dialog box no longer hides the Window Properties box * AutoPlace was always on (whoops) * Fixed GPF when hiding some window titles and classes * Adding already existing entry to AutoPlace sometimes caused a GPF Installation & Uninstalling --------------------------- There is no special procedure to follow. Just place the program into any directory of your choice. It is probably best to place WindowControl into your startup so that it is always running when you start windows so that whatever programs you run will always be placed where you want them. This program requires the Visual Basic 3 runtime files to work. These are probably already on your computer. If not, you'll need VBRUN300.DLL for the program to work. To uninstall WindowControl, just remove WINDOW.EXE and WINDOWH.INI which will be in your WINDOWS directory.
