UTILITIES INCLUDED AS STANDARD
Many utilities are
included as standard with FaxWare 5. These utilities are not necessarily
required to send and receive faxes. However, in some cases they provide
very useful functions.áá
Tobit supports
HP Network ScanJet 5á
A driver for the Network ScanJet 5 from Hewlett Packard is included as
standard with FaxWare 5. By combining these two products, users can scan
documents and send them to a user on the LAN, directly to the TAS, or from
the scanner to any fax machine in the world. The user just has to key in
the fax number directly into the scanner's front panel. As the scanner
connects directly to a network server running FaxWare 5, it acts as network
input device for documents which aren't available in electronic format
for network distribution internally and externally.áá
Evaluation
of the send and receive logsá
In addition
to the export function of the Windows Frontend, a further tool is available
to evaluate the FaxWare logs. The REPORTER.EXE program runs under DOS and
provides extensive evaluation possibilities. By means of easily configurable
initialization files (ASCII files) the logs can be analyzed according to
user, cost, period of time, transmission status, line, etc. The results
can be sent to a printer, to a file, or just displayed on the screen. This
way, nothing within FaxWare is hidden.áá
Print server
for Windowsá
Sometimes not
all faxes need to be printed centrally through the server. For example,
with the Windows DVPRINT.EXE program you can print fax files locally. This
program runs on any client on the network. Depending on the configuration,
it automatically prints out all fax files sent and received to your local
printer.áá
Interface
for software developersá
The Windows
FAPIDDE.EXE utility can be used to establish a connection to the FaxWare
API interface (FAPI) by means of general DDE commands. Therefore, programs
which aren't able to establish a connection to the DLL interface can transport
data to the FaxWare server over ╗DDE message calls½ or retrieve information.áá
Faxing with
an HP PCL printer driverá
The PCL Conversion
Server runs as an NLM on the FaxWare server and allows DOS users to fax
from applications using an HP PCL compatible printer driver. In the FaxWare
configuration you only have to set the data format of the fax service (FileScan
or Queue Services) to allow for the conversion of HP PCL jobs. These fax
jobs will be automatically forwarded to the PCL Conversion Server, converted
and passed back to FaxWare. The user continues to fax as normal but in
DOS applications they will have a lot more design possibilities e.g. scaleable
