Notes for installing DesignSYM from the CD-ROM drive


The CD-ROM version of DesignSYM is a little different from the diskette
version, and consequently the installation is a bit different. This
document will attempt to guide you through the installation.

The SYMLIB directory contains two subdirectories: ARCHITEC and INDUST.
The ARCHITEC subdirectory contains the architectural symbols. The INDUST
directory contains the industrial symbols.

Each of these directories contains a number of .EXE files and a set of
subdirectories matching the names of the .EXE files. Each .EXE file is a
self-extracting archive containing all of the symbols in that group in
compressed format. The subdirectory of the same name contains all of the
expanded symbols in the .EXE file. The expanded symbols can be used
directly from the CD-ROM if you wish.

You can install all or some of the symbols to your hard drive in several
ways. If you want an entire symbol library (for example, all of the BATH
symbols), then you should change to the drive AND DIRECTORY where you
want those symbols to go, and then run the appropriate .EXE file. For
example, to install the BATH symbols in a SYMBOL subdirectory of your
DesignCAD directory on C: drive, run the following commands (NOTE that
[ENTER] means press the "ENTER" key; DON'T type it out as shown!):


C: [ENTER]                (THIS CHANGES TO C: DRIVE)
CD \DCAD [ENTER]          (THIS CHANGES TO THE DCAD DIRECTORY)
MD SYMBOL [ENTER]         (THIS CREATES A DIRECTORY CALLED "SYMBOL")
CD SYMBOL [ENTER]         (THIS MOVES INTO THE SYMBOL DIRECTORY)
E:\SYMLIB\ARCHITEC\BATH [ENTER]
                           (THIS RUNS THE BATH PROGRAM. ALL OF THE
                           SYMBOLS ARE EXTRACTED TO THE CURRENT
                           DIRECTORY. NOTE THAT YOUR CD-ROM DRIVE LETTER
                           MAY NOT BE "E". YOU SHOULD CHANGE THIS LETTER
                           TO REFLECT THE ACTUAL DRIVE LETTER OF YOUR
                           CD-ROM DRIVE)
To install the DOOR1 library,
E:\SYMLIB\ARCHITEC\DOOR1 [ENTER]


If you only want to copy selected symbols to the SYMBOL directory, it is
simple to use the FILE MANAGER in WINDOWS (or any number of DOS-based
utility programs) to choose which files to copy and their destination.
