After the initial distribution and installation of the browser, you can easily provide future updates through a software distribution channel. To set up a software distribution channel for Internet Explorer, you need to post a Channel Definition Format (.cdf) file on your Internet or intranet server.
You can automatically notify each user about updated versions when the user clicks the shortcut (.lnk file) to launch the program from the desktop or the Start menu. To use this method, your program must use Microsoft Windows standards for entering version and uninstall information into the registry.
You can find template .cdf files in the Reference section.
