You could use the Merge Tape utility if you need to restore files to a SCO ARCserve/Open host that you did not use to create the backup.
The Chicago office of a large company sends a tape to its New York office The tape contains files that were backed up in Chicago using SCO ARCserve/Open. In order to restore the files in New York, the system administrator uses the Merge Tape utility to add the database information from the tape to the database on her SCO ARCserve/Open host. She then restores the files to her host.
You could also use the Merge Tape utility if you purged (deleted) information from your SCO ARCserve/Open database that you now need. See ``Configuring database options'' for more information about purging database records.
You need to restore a file that you created last January (eight months ago). You've saved all of your monthly Auto Pilot backup tapes for the last 12 months, but your SCO ARCserve/Open system purges database records that are older than six months.
In order to restore the file, you use the Merge Tape utility to add the database information from the January tape to the database on your SCO ARCserve/Open host.
