Checking the status of a tape drive

You can check the status of any drive connected to your system. The status information includes the following:

To get the status of a tape drive:

  1. Select the drive from the list of available drives.

Refer to ``Selecting a tape drive'' for information about selecting a tape drive.

The information in the Device Status area is for the tape drive that is currently selected.

Since SCO ARCserve/Open is designed to utilize all the devices attached to your system, it is possible for a particular tape drive to be locked, even though it's not currently being used for a back up or restore job. If temporary access to the tape drive is required, you must stop the back end process by typing astop in order to release it. After accessing the device and completing the operation to be performed, restart the back end process by typing astart.

In order for a locked tape drive to be accessed on a full-time basis, that device must be removed or commented out of the tapesrv.cfg file. For more information about editing the tapesrv.cfg file, please refer to the contents of the tapesrv.cfg file located in the /usr/lib/ARCserve directory.
