Additional information about tape group configuration

The tapesvr.cfg file contains information about your current tape groups and the tape drives assigned to those groups. When you click on Config after making changes to your tape groups, two things happen:

We strongly recommend that you use the SCO ARCserve/Open Device Manager (as described in the previous pages) to do all your group configuration.

Since SCO ARCserve/Open is designed to utilize all the devices attached to your system, it is possible for a particular tape drive to be locked, even though itÆs not currently being used for a back up or restore job. If temporary access to the tape drive is required, you must stop the back end process by typing ôastopö in order to release it. After accessing the device and completing the operation to be performed, restart the back end process by typing ôastartö.

In order for a locked tape drive to be accessed on a full-time basis, that device must be removed or commented out of the tapesrv.cfg file. For more information about editing the tapesrv.cfg file, please refer to the contents of the tapesrv.cfg file located in the /usr/lib/ARCserve directory.
