Job queue basics

How does SCO ARCserve/Open's job queue work?

Every time you run or schedule a job through SCO ARCserve/Open, you submit it to the SCO ARCserve/Open job queue. Information about all jobs (such as execution time, status, and owner) is stored here. SCO ARCserve/Open continuously scans the job queue for jobs that are ready to be executed. At the appropriate date and time, the job is executed.

Queue users vs. queue operators

There are two types of users for the SCO ARCserve/Open job queue:

You must be one of these types of users in order to submit jobs with SCO ARCserve/Open. The table below illustrates the fundamental differences between queue users and queue operators:

Queue operators have more rights

As you can see from the table, queue operators have more rights than queue users. Where queue users can view, delete, or modify their own jobs, queue operators can view, delete, or modify all jobs. In addition, queue operators can add and remove users from the queue user list, as well as assign and remove queue operator privileges.

Queue user and queue operator rights also carry over to the other SCO ARCserve/Open Managers. From the following table you can see the difference in the types of users:

The root user has root and operator privileges which cannot be removed.
