Adding a Remote Client to the database

The following example illustrates how and why you use the Remote Clients database:

Audrey has just installed and started the client agent for HP-UX on a host called open2. Before she can back up open2 from her host, she needs to add a record for it to SCO ARCserve/Open's Remote Clients database.

To add a record to SCO ARCserve/Open's Remote Clients database:

  1. Get the node address of the host you are adding.

You can get the address from the /etc/hosts file.

Audrey needs to add open2's address: 132.122.22.156.

  2. Click the Add Record button.

The Add Remote Client dialog box is displayed.

  3. Enter the information about the remote client you are adding.

You must complete the Node Address and Node Name fields. The others are optional.

Audrey clicks OK to save the record and add open2 to the Remote Clients database:

In the Backup Manager source area you will see a category called ``Remote Hosts''. Once you expand Remote Hosts, you will see all the hosts that you added to the Remote Clients database. For details about making a backup, refer to ``Backing up to Tape''.
