Creating scripts for your jobs

You can save any type of backup job as a script. The script will contain the source and destinations that you selected and the schedule information, if you scheduled the job. It will also contain any filters you created to include and exclude files and directories.

Creating a script has the following advantages:

To use a script, simply open it then schedule the date and time for it to run. All of the information that you had specified when you saved the form will appear in the Backup Manager window, including the files and directories and the other scheduling information.

Follow these directions to create a script:

  1. Select a source and destination for the backup.

Refer to ``Backing up - the basic steps'' for more information on selecting what you want to back up, and to where.

  2. Schedule and customize the job (if necessary).

Refer to ``Backing up - the basic steps'' for details on scheduling a job. Refer to ``Filtering Your Jobs'' for information on adding filters to the backup job.

  3. From the File menu, choose Save As.

The scripts dialog box appears. This is where you will provide the name for the backup script.

  4. Give the script a name, then click OK.

All SCO ARCserve/Open scripts are stored in the jobs subdirectory of the SCO ARCserve/Open home directory with a default extension ``.as5''. You can also create the scripts in the directory of your choice, if you want other people to share the scripts.

It should be noted that SCO ARCserve/Open's home directory is determined at the time of installation and is defined by the system administrator.

  5. From the File menu, choose Open.

    The Scripts dialog box appears.

  6. Select the script that you want to use.

Select the script you want to use from the list of scripts that appears, or enter the name of the script that you want to use.

  7. In the Run dialog box, enter the date and time you want the job to run.

Since the script was saved with a date and time specified, the date and time will probably not be applicable. For that reason, you should re-enter a date and/or time on which the job will run.
