General backup options
In addition to backup verification, you can use several
other backup options, including:
Each of these options are discussed in the following sections.
Leave this option set so that SCO ARCserve/Open records the path for any file you back up into the database. If you ever need to restore, SCO ARCserve/Open can recreate the path to these files, making the restore process more efficient. If this information is not recorded, then you will have to load the tape in the drive, and manually restore from the tape.
Set this option to have SCO ARCserve/Open eject the tape from the drive after the job finishes. This helps prevent any other job from overwriting information on the tape.
If you try to eject a tape from a drive that does not support the eject feature, SCO ARCserve/Open will think that the tape has been ejected, even though it is still physically in the drive. You will need to walk over to the drive, eject the tape, then put it back in for SCO ARCserve/Open to see the tape again.
Set this option to have SCO ARCserve/Open delete source files after it has backed them up to tape.
This option is useful if you are backing up old, unused files. Set a filter to back up files that haven't been accessed for a period of time, and then delete them from your host. Refer to
``Filtering Your Jobs'' for more information about filters.
All deleted files are listed in the Activity Log.
The following files/directories are always excluded from being deleted:
- any file under the SCO ARCserve/Open home directory
- any files under the root directory
- the following directories: /bin, /dev, /etc, /lib, /usr/bin, /usr/lib, /sbin, /usr/sbin, /kernel, /usr/kernel, /devices, /var/sadm/pkg
Clear user connections before job
Set this option to have SCO ARCserve/Open log out any users before the backup job takes off. This helps to ensure that there are no locked files to prevent SCO ARCserve/Open from getting a successful backup.
This option is only for users on NetWare file servers, and is only available if you have
licensed a connection to the SCO ARCserve/Open NWagent on a NetWare file server.
Set this option to have SCO ARCserve/Open clear a file's archive bit after it has been backed up. If you are performing incremental backups (and are not using Auto Pilot), then you should set this flag.
This option is only for files on NetWare file servers and Windows clients.
