tapesvr.cfg notes for the advanced user
When you start the SCO ARCserve/Open Tape Server, it reads a file called tapesvr.cfg. This configuration file contains the following information:
- the type of tape drives to use with SCO ARCserve/Open
- the names of the tape device groups
- the SCSI IDs in each tape device group (including the SCSI ID of the tape drives in the changer and the changer's SCSI ID)
- for multiple tape drive changers, the slot numbers assigned to each tape drive in the changer
- whether or not there is a head cleaning tape loaded in the changer
- the kind of changer that has been installed
If you can familiarize yourself with this file, troubleshooting any difficulties you may experience running Tape Server with the Changer Option can be made easier.
Several parameters are referenced when you run Tape Server. These parameters are read from the appropriate section of the tapesvr.cfg file. In the sample tapesvr.cfg file shown below, the group CHGROUP is loaded with the Autochanger:
[CHANGER] Added on Wed Mar 16 10:47:29 1994
CHANGER_NAME = "CHANGER" SCSIID 4,1
CHANGER_LIST = SCSIID 4
CHANGER_GROUP = "CHGROUP" SCSIID 4,0 FROM 1 TO 6
The following table describes each changer parameter and its function:
The sample tapesvr.cfg file shown below illustrates the following about the changer installed:
- this is the type of changer with the same SCSI ID for both the changer and the single tape drive contained within the unit
- the tape device group is called CHGROUP
- a tape head cleaning cartridge has NOT been loaded in the changer
