Using Auto Pilot and a changer - Example 1
The following window depicts an SCO ARCserve/Open Auto Pilot job. The network administrator names the set NET_BACK. Four daily, 5 weekly, and 12 monthly tapes are needed for this set, for a total of 21 tapes per year.
Differential backups are performed Monday through Thursday. On Friday, a full backup is performed (the weekly backup). On the last Friday of every month, the monthly backup is performed.
Table 1 shows how Auto Pilot names and preserves tapes over a 17 week period:
- weekly backups are rotated every 5 times
- monthly backups are preserved for 12 months (one year)
- the 17th week includes the next monthly backup, scheduled for Friday, February 25, 1994, requiring a blank tape. A new magazine will have to be mounted
