About the Client Agent for Windows 95
This chapter explains the basic concepts of the
Windows® 95 Client Agent, including:
What is a Client Agent?
The Client Agent for Windows 95 is a ``go-between''
that allows SCO®
ARCserve/®Open from Cheyenne®
to efficiently back up and restore Windows 95 machines.
The Client Agent helps SCO ARCserve/Open retrieve and send data
to and from a Windows 95 machine.
Using SCO ARCserve/Open with the Windows 95 Client Agent
provides the following benefits:
- minimizes load on your communications network.
- increases efficiency for your fileserver by off-loading the processing of data to the client machine.
- detailed file and directory information about the remote client in the SCO ARCserve/Open Browser.
What is Push technology?
The Client Agent for Windows 95 uses
Push technology to help perform backup, restore, and compare jobs.
All the filtering of files and directories is done on the client machine prior to ``pushing'' the data to the host server
(the SCO system running SCO ARCserve/Open)
for processing.
Only specified directories or files are sent to the
SCO ARCserve/Open host.
Push technology minimizes the transfer of data to the
SCO ARCserve/Open host, thereby reducing the load
on your communications network.
The host server can operate more efficiently because it does not
have to filter the data for the backup job.
