The Destination Options dialog box displays:
See the description of these options on the next few pages.
Use the upper portion of the destination options window to enter information about the device group and tape you want to use.
Information about the Device Group and Tape Name is taken from what you selected in the destination pane on the Backup Manager window. You can manually enter different information here to overwrite what you chose.
An ``*'' in the Tape Name field tells SCO ARCserve/Open to use any tape that is in the drive when the job takes off. If you are overwriting tapes, you will have to specify a tape name in the Tape Name field.
By default, SCO ARCserve/Open appends any data to the tape you selected for your backup job.
If you are a Queue User, you can only select Append to Tape, you will not be able to overwrite tapes.
You can also overwrite tapes in the drive, by selecting another First Tape Option:
Use this option if you want SCO ARCserve/Open to overwrite any tape that is in the drive with the same name as in the Tape Name field, or if the tape is blank. If a tape with a different name is in the drive when the job takes off, the job will fail.
Use this option if you want SCO ARCserve/Open to overwrite any tape that is in the drive. The tape is reformatted with the name that is in the Tape Name field.
Only Auto Pilot tapes will not be overwritten. If SCO ARCserve/Open finds that the tape in the drive is an Auto Pilot tape, the job will fail.
Unlike appending to a tape, overwriting a tape formats the tape and then starts writing to it at the beginning. Any data that was on the tape is lost.
If the backup job you schedule requires more than one tape to back up the selected targets, SCO ARCserve/Open needs some information on what to do. If you only have one tape drive, SCO ARCserve/Open will have to wait the specified number of minutes in the Span Tape Timeout field for you to insert another tape. If you have grouped together tape drives, then SCO ARCserve/Open can automatically move to the next tape drive and use that tape. But you need to tell SCO ARCserve/Open to use only tapes with the same name, or blank tapes, or any tapes:
Use this option if you want SCO ARCserve/Open to overwrite any tape with the same tape name as the sequence one tape (the first tape used in the backup job). The next tape (sequence two) is reformatted with the name that is in the Tape Name field. If you are a queue user, not an operator, then this is the only spanning option available to you.
Use this option if you want SCO ARCserve/Open to overwrite any tape that is in the drive. The next tape (sequence two) is reformatted with the name that is in the Tape Name field.
Be careful when using this option if you have grouped drives. Leaving a tape in a drive can cause it to be reformatted if you have told SCO ARCserve/Open to span to any tape.
