Download Java WorkShop: Windows NT/Windows 95 Release 1.0 Some important notes before you begin: * The Java WorkShop is compatible only with version 3.51 of Windows NT. * The minimum display resolution that works properly with the WorkShop is 800x600. * A specially modified version of the Java Developer's Kit (JDK) is included with the WorkShop. This version of the JDK is required in order to use the Dev 6 release. * The file system you are using must support long file names (as opposed to the 8.3 format). The following steps lead you through the process of downloading the release from the server and installing it on your Windows NT/Windows 95 system. 1. Be sure your system has enough free disk space to accommodate the compressed files, uncompressed files, and space required by the setup program: o 7 Mbytes -- Java WorkShop files (compressed) o 15 Mbytes -- Java WorkShop files (uncompressed) o 7 Mbytes of space required by the setup program (must be in the same directory as the compressed files). On systems that use the FAT file system, disk space usage can vary considerably depending on the cluster size. In the worst case--a 1 Gbyte uncompressed disk (or logical volume), the cluster size is 32 Kbytes. This means that that every file, regardless of size, is allocated 32 Kbytes. On systems with the 32 Kbyte cluster size, Java WorkShop uses approximately 66 Mbytes. 2. After the software has been downloaded, run the downloaded executable setupws.exe to decompress and install the Java WorkShop: [C:\] setupws.exe Follow the on-screen setup program instructions. 3. You can verify that the installation was successful by running the following program from a DOS comand prompt: \JWS\intel-win32\bin\ivp If necessary, you can uninstall the WorkShop using the Uninstall icon in the program group, or from the Windows95 control panel.
