Specify your home page and Visual Page quickly creates a project file containing information about the files that make up your Web site. The project file allows you to quickly understand your Web site's structure, to automatically maintain your Web site's integrity, and to greatly improve the speed in which you can update and enhance your Web site.
Once you have imported or created your Web site, Visual Page's project manager provides you with four distinct views of your Web site.
Your Web site's links are automatically checked in the background while you build your Web site. Invalid and missing links are highlighted in both the link and status views. Invalid links are links to files that are located outside of your local Web site's directories. These links will be broken when your Web site is published. Missing links are links to files that don't exist. These are caused by files that are moved or removed after links are made to them.
Fixing your Web site's broken links is as easy as selecting the broken link and browsing to the file that should be linked to. Once you have fixed the link, all files that contain the same broken link are also automatically fixed.
Once a project file is created, all of your links are automatically maintained for you while you build and modify your Web site. Changing a file name results in all links to that file automatically being updated to the new name. Changing an email link in any of the project manager views results in all of your Web pages that contain the email link being updated.
Updating content across your entire Web site is easily achieved using Visual Page's site-wide search-and-replace. No more worrying that you have forgotten to check all of your Web site's files for content that should have been changed.
Visual Page's site-wide spell checking helps to ensure that you avoid embarrassing spelling mistakes that take away from your professional image.
Once you have finished making changes to your Web site, publish the Web pages that have been updated with a click of the button. Only the files that have been changed will be published. You can also select specific files that you want to upload to your Web server or download to your local system.
Use cascading style sheets to build a uniform look and feel across your entire Web site. A visual cascading style sheets (CSS) editor makes it easy to create, apply, and preview styles. Create and assign a CSS file to your project and your entire Web site is automatically updated with a new and uniform look. Add different style sheets to specific Web pages to build a distinct look for sub sections of your Web site.
If you are viewing this file in Visual Page, try the following to experience the benefits of using style sheets:
Enter edit mode by selecting the edit icon from the Visual Page toolbar and then select Page Style Sheets from the Edit menu. Select Add from
the Page Style Sheets Window and then browse to the whimsical.css file which is located in the Highlights subdirectory
of where you installed Visual Page. Select this file and select Open to add it to this page. Now select OK to experience
this page's new look. The difference is astounding as this page now contains a whole new look. To change this page
back to its original style, select Page Style Sheets from the Edit menu and select Remove from the Page Style Sheets
Window. Now select OK to return this page to its original look.
The fully licensed version of Visual Page 2.0 includes many sample style sheets that you can use to give your Web site a whole new look.
Use absolute pixel positioning for ultimate control over the layout of your Web pages. Easily convert Web page objects to layers and take advantage of grid tools for quickly positioning your layers in a professional manner. Create layers within layers in order to mix word processing and desktop publishing layout schemes for ultimate control of your Web page look and feel.
Upon installation Visual Page automatically detects the default installations of the Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator browsers. These browsers are then automatically added to a drop down menu list. This list is used for loading your current Web page into the browser of your choice for easy previewing. Additional applications can be specified in the preferences file so Web pages can easily be loaded into any application that works with HTML files.
Change the text font and size that is used in the syntax editor window to meet your viewing needs. The syntax editor represents text, tags, attributes, values, and comments with user specifiable colors in order to make it easy to work at the code level.
