Learn about the Occasional Expense Fund place

In the Occasional Expense Fund place (in Budget Planner), you'll find a list of scheduled contributions to your Occasional Expense Fund accounts (These accounts are for expenses that occur throughout a typical year on an irregular basis, such as clothing, automobile repairs, and holiday gifts. If you put money aside for these expenses, youÆll have a more accurate budget.).

This place includes two places:

Summary of savings by category The top part of the screen summarizes all scheduled deposits (monthly and occasional) for each Occasional Expense Fund account. The Additional Occasional Expense Fund Savings line lists unscheduled contribution totals. The Annual Total column summarizes budgeted amounts for each line. (An asterisk means the deposit is scheduled to end in less than 12 months.) When you use the Bills place to create transfers to Occasional Expense Fund accounts, those transactions are automatically reflected here.
Occasional Expense Fund tips The bottom of the screen lists tips for improving your Occasional Expense Fund savings plan.

From the Occasional Expense Fund place, you can:

Add or remove a scheduled contribution from your Occasional Expense Fund.
Add unscheduled contributions (Occasional Expense Fund Savings) to your Occasional Expense Fund.
Edit scheduled transactions in your Occasional Expense Fund.

What is the Occasional Expense Fund for?

Use Occasional Expense Fund accounts to save for occasional planned expenses and unexpected expenses. These include vacations, car repairs, wedding expenses, emergency home repairs, and the like.

Be sure to budget enough in your occasional savings fund accounts to cover the amounts shown in the Occasional column of the Budget Expenses place. (Click Expenses in the left pane to see expense amounts.)
