Enter career events that affect my salary

Over the course of your working lifetime, how will your career change? Will you get a promotion, work fewer hours, switch to a new career, take a sabbatical? Use the Career place to enter career events that will affect your salary or your partner's salary.

1 Go to the Career place for you or your partner in Lifetime Planner.

How?

1 On the navigation bar (The strip at the top of the Money screen where you can click to go to the different areas in Money.), click Planner.

2 Click Lifetime Planner.

3 In the left pane, click Income.

4 Click either <Your> Career or <Your PartnerÆs> Career.

2 In the middle of the screen, click New. The New Career Event wizard appears.

3 Follow the instructions on the screen.

How do I schedule a change to a new job?

1 Follow the instructions above.

2 In the New Career Event wizard, click Change jobs, and then click Next.

3 Type a description for the new job, and enter a date when this change will occur.

4 Type the salary you'll receive, or click Will receive a and specify a salary rate increase (or decrease) compared to your current salary.

5 From the New salary will grow at drop-down list, click an option:

Click Keeps with inflation if your annual raises will match the rate of inflation shown.

Click A custom rate of if your raises aren't tied to the inflation rate. Type the average annual raise you expect.

Click Inflation plus or Inflation minus if your raises are tied to the inflation rate. Type the percentage above or below the inflation rate.

Click No inflation if you will receive no raises.

How do I schedule a major salary increase from a promotion or increase in hours worked?

1 Follow the instructions above.

2 In the New Career Event wizard, click Get a major promotion, and then click Next.

3 Type a description for the new job, and enter a date when you'll receive your raise.

4 Type the amount of the increase you'll receive, or click Will receive a and specify a percentage of your salary.

How do I schedule one-time bonus?

1 Follow the instructions above.

2 In the New Career Event wizard, click Receive a one-time bonus, and then click Next.

3 Type a description, and enter a date when you'll receive your bonus.

4 Type the dollar amount you'll receive, or click the bottom option and enter a percentage of your salary.

How do I schedule a salary decrease because I plan to work fewer hours?

1 Follow the instructions above.

2 In the New Career Event wizard, click Work fewer hours, and then click Next.

3 Type a description for the work-schedule change, and enter the beginning and end dates.

4 Type the dollar amount of your salary decrease, or click the bottom option and enter a percentage of your salary.
