Balance (reconcile) an account
Play the Balancing my account video.
1 Make sure you have your account statement handy.
2 Go to the account you want to balance.
How?
1 On the
navigation bar (The strip at the top of the Money screen where you can click to go to the different areas in Money.), click
Accounts.
2 At the top of the left pane, click the down-arrow
, and then click the account you want.
If you don't see the account you want, look for it under Other Open Accounts or Closed Accounts.
3 In the lower-left corner of the screen, click Balance this account.
4 Read the instructions on the screen, and then click Next.
5 In the Starting balance and Ending balance fields, enter balances for this period from your account statement.
6 Enter any service charges or interest earned or charged during this balance period for this account, and then click Next. If youÆre using online statements, this information should already be entered into the account.
7 Read the Balance Account information on the left of the screen.
8 In the account register, click the C (Cleared) field to mark each transaction as Cleared.
9 If you need to enter or change any transactions while balancing, in the lower pane, click Click here to add or edit transactions.
10 When youÆre done, click Next and then follow the instructions on the screen.
When you finish, all transactions that you have cleared will have an R (for Reconciled) in the C (Cleared) column.
Why is there an E in the C (Cleared) field of my transactions?
If you electronically download your transactions, an E will appear in the C (Cleared) field. After you balance your account, the E will change to a C (cleared).
Why did my service charges show up twice?
If you use online statements, your service charges and interest payments get entered automatically when you download your statement.
Why donÆt my starting and ending balances match?
Can I group my transactions the same way theyÆre grouped in my statement?
