When Bankruptcy May Be Your Best Option
Some types of debts are not eliminated when you file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The courts call these "non-dischargeable debts." These debts include:

n
Debts considered support payments, such as alimony and child support.

n
Student loans that have been due for seven years or less.

n
Income taxes less than three years past due.

n
Condominium and cooperative association dues.

n
Court judgments for injuries or death to someone caused by your intoxicated driving.

In addition, the bankruptcy judge has the discretion to disallow other types of debt, such as:

n
Debts related to criminal activities, such as fraud, larceny or damage to another person's property.

n
Debts arising out of a marital settlement agreement or divorce decree.
