Languages

You can set a new language for Opera's user interface, and you specify languages Opera will ask for when you visit Web pages.

User interface

There are two ways to change the language of Opera's user interface:

Method A: Download a full localized version:

  1. Go to Opera's custom download page
  2. Select your preferred language version
  3. Download and install the file

Method B: Download a language file:

  1. Go to Opera's language page
  2. Download your desired language file
  3. Follow the on-line instructions for installing the language file

You can download as many language files you want and select between them in the drop-down menu in Preferences.

Note: Opera may not be available in your language.

Web pages

Some international Web sites support more than one language. Opera can communicate with such sites and ask for pages in languages you have specified. If your first choice is not available, Opera will ask for the next language on your list.

Click to add a new language to the list of languages Opera asks for when you visit Web pages. If your preferred language is not listed, enter it in the "User defined" field.

Note: Only officially supported types are recognized.

Fallback encoding

Encoding for international characters in Web pages is determined in the following order:

  1. Your explicit choice in the View menu
  2. Encoding set by server
  3. Encoding set by page
  4. Fallback encoding set in Preferences
