Default Browser

If you make Opera your default browser, your operating system will start Opera when you want to surf the Internet. When Opera is already running, it can handle all file types and protocols listed, even if they are not checked.

Opera can also be used for viewing images.

Web pages

To use Opera for viewing Web pages, select the following file types and protocols:

File types
.htm .html .xml .url

Protocols
http https

The Internet covers more than e-mail and Web pages. Opera therefore supports additional protocols:

news	Handled by M2, Opera's e-mail client Example: news://news.opera.com/
ftp	Handled through Opera's Web interface Example:ftp://ftp.opera.com/

Tip: Use Opera to read news messages even if you use another program to read your e-mail.

Images

To use Opera for viewing images, select the following file types:

.bmp .gif *.jpeg	.jpg .png *.xbm

Opera can also be used for:

Note: If you have more than one version of Opera installed, you only have to make one of them your default browser.
