TheDECK. A fantastic demo for AdLib and Sound Blaster cards. Plays single-track MIDI files and SoundBlaster VOC files. To convert your AdLib .ROL files to MIDI format use the supplied ROL2MIDI.EXE converter (courtesy of AdLib, Inc.). The new MIDI file will contain all the REQUIRED instrument data internal to the MIDI file itself-- no more need to carry around a huge, and mostly unused, instrument bank file. Most standard MIDI files will also play in TheDECK. Start up TheDECK with C>THEDECK1 [/NU] where /NU means no VU updating. The /NU probably isn't necessary but may result in a cleaner sound on slow multitasking machines. In the program, press F1 for the basic help screen. You can use a mouse and left-button for system control or the TAB/shift-TAB and ENTER keys. Esc quits to DOS. The max MIDI file size that can be played is 65520 bytes (that's about 5-20 minutes of continuous music). The max VOC file size depends on available memory (about 400K). VOC requires a Sound Blaster. The source file of TheDECK is included as is the QBXSOUND.BI declaration include file. If you like what you see and would like to create your own fantastic programs, by all means, place an order. If you want to test it further check out the supplied QLBs. chh
