Note

Removable Storage keeps a database of all changers and standalone drives it supports as well as keeping track of work items and operator requests. The database also contains all supported media, organized by both pool and media type.

Check Integrity tab

Examines a Removable Storage database for referential integrity constraints. Steps through the database and inspects each database object attribute for valid values and referential integrity. Run this option when Removable Storage behaves unpredictably or the information shown in Removable Storage snap-in is incorrect.

Check Integrity tab
Option Description
Verbose Output Generate a detailed report on the database.
Pause Removable Storage Pause the Removable Storage service then continue the service after the integrity check is complete. This prevents Removable Storage from modifying the database, and potentially causing an erroneous inconsistency to be reported while the database is being checked.

If it fails to pause or continue the Removable Storage feature, a warning message will appear. You will then need to manually either pause or restart the Removable Storage service from the MMC Service snap-in.

View Result with Microsoft Internet Explorer View the generated report in Internet Explorer immediately after the integrity check is complete.
Output Specify the location where integrity check report is created. By default, this report is saved as C:\RSMResult.txt

Backup/Restore tab

Creates a consistent set of database files. These files are suitable for backup by your favorite backup program. While the Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Backup utility can create a Removable Storage database backup, other backup tools might not have this capability.

Backup/Restore tab
Option Description
Backup Create a backup file called Ntmsdata.bak in the Ntmsdata\Export\ subdirectory of the current database location.
Restore Restore database from Ntmsdata.bak in the Ntmsdata\Export\ subdirectory of the current database location.

Configure tab

Change the default location of a Removable Storage database. When you enter a different location and click Change, the current database and backup files are moved to the new location and necessary registry changes are made so Removable Storage can still locate the database.
For example, you would use this option to place a Removable Storage database on a different volume, such as a RAID disk.

Configure tab
Option Description
Current location Displays the current database location. Enter the new location here and click the Change button.

Moving the database requires that the Removable Storage service is stopped. If the tool can't stop the service, the database will not be moved, and a warning message will appear. You will then need to manually stop the Removable Storage service from the MMC Service snap-in.

Find Guid tab

Lists GUIDs used by Removable Storage. Use the "find GUID" feature to help figure out what error messages returned by Removable Storage-aware applications really mean. Double-clicking any GUID provides more details about the object. You can also search the database for a specific GUID.

Find Guid tab
Option Description
Search button Search for a specific GUID within the Removable Storage database.
Refresh button Refresh button re-reads the Removable Storage database and generates a new list of Guids.
Type GUID type.
GUID GUID value. This is the unique identifier for an object.

Double-clicking on a specific GUID returns the following information for that item. Information returned includes:

Option Description
Name The name of the object.
Description
Type Options include: computer, drive, drivetype, ieport, library, mediapool, mediatype
Id The GUID for this object.
