This tool enables you to change your display's visible screen area (resolution), bit depth, and vertical refresh rate (Microsoft® Windows® 2000/Microsoft® Windows NT® only) from the taskbar, without restarting the operating system.
QuickRes resides as an icon in the status area, the notification area at the right end of the taskbar. Single-click the icon with the left mouse button to dynamically select new display settings for your desktop. Double-click the icon to bring up the Display Properties dialog box.
The mode-settings menu is sortable. QuickRes can remember which modes are compatible with your monitor, and which ones are not (based on the user's input).
QuickRes is multiple-monitor aware when running on operating systems that support multiple displays (Microsoft® Windows 98 and Windows 2000).
Note
If you select a mode that is incompatible with your video card, simply wait 15 seconds or press the ESC key or the N key. Each of these returns you to the previous resolution and tags the mode as incompatible for future reference.
QuickRes is one of the Power Toys.
