Installing the Windows 2000 Resource Kit

  1. Insert the Windows 2000 Resource Kit companion CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen. For command-line and unattended installation information, see the Release Notes (readme.htm).
For a list of server-only tools, see Tools Included Only In Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit .

The Setup program installs the Resource Kit onto your hard disk. A typical installation requires approximately 65 MB of free disk space.

During setup you can select an installation directory. For the Server kit, the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Resource Kit. For the Professional kit, the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Resource Pro Kit.

For the Server kit, Setup creates a Windows 2000 Resource Kit folder on the Programs menu. For the Professional kit, Setup creates a Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit folder on the Programs menu. In either case, this folder contains shortcuts to Resource Kit components, including Tools Help (this Help file), other online documentation, and Tools. The tools are organized in a customized folder with right-click menu items for the tools that launch the executable file and the help topic.
